Antenatal Care

During these uncertain times and where our NHS services are stretched, your antenatal care may seem a little rushed. I aim to work alongside your routine NHS appointments at the hospital where you have booked your pregnancy. You’ll have the chance to ask me all those questions you may not have time to ask and spend quality time with me. I can provide antenatal care in the following or neighbouring areas:

Usually by 9 or 10 weeks of pregnancy, you will have had a booking appointment with a midwife. The midwife will have arranged your dating scan by 12 weeks, and the plan of antenatal care is explained from there.

From 28 weeks of pregnancy, I’ll provide unhurried appointments where you’ll have an antenatal check up in the comfort of your own home.  Appointments last around 1 hour. Call me for an informal chat on 07900 566012 or get in touch with me, I’d love to hear from you.

I can also carry out:

Abdominal palpation

I’ll palpate your abdomen to predict the position of the baby.

Blood pressure

I’ll check your blood pressure and heart rate.

Fetal heart rate

I’ll listen to heart rate of the baby using a handheld doppler.

Urine dipstick

I’ll test your urine with a dipstick to ensure that any urine infections do not go untreated.

Birth preference session

An in-depth discussion surrounding options for labour, birth and third stage. With assistance writing a birth plan tailored to your requirements. This may be ideal for second time parents who are reflecting on their first birth, and how this may impact their forthcoming labour and birth.

From 32 weeks.

Post due date stretch and sweep

A cervical sweep is an internal examination with the aim of releasing prostaglandin hormones, which help to soften and ripen the cervix ready for labour. A full antenatal check is carried out prior to the cervical sweep

From 40 weeks.
